Radiation dose-volume effects in the lung.
The three-dimensional dose, volume, and outcome data for lung are reviewed in detail. The rate of symptomatic pneumonitis is related to many dosimetric parameters, and there are no evident threshold "tolerance dose-volume" levels. There are strong volume and fractionation effects.
متن کاملRadiation pneumonitis and pulmonary function with lung dose–volume constraints in breast cancer irradiation
PURPOSE We studied symptomatic radiation pneumonitis (RP) and changes in pulmonary function tests (PFTs) after loco-regional radiotherapy (LRRT) with V20 lung constraints in breast cancer (BC). PATIENTS AND METHODS Sixty-four women underwent PFTs before and 5 months after 3D planned LRRT for BC. The incidentally irradiated ipsilateral lung V20 was minimised to <30%. Patients were monitored fo...
متن کاملPrognostic Significance of Volume-Based FDG PET/CT Parameters in Patients with Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer Treated with Chemoradiation Therapy
PURPOSE We investigated the prognostic role of volume-based parameters measured on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) scans in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) treated with chemoradiation therapy (CRT). MATERIALS AND METHODS We enrolled 60 patients with LAPC who underwent FDG PET/CT before CRT. Maximum standardized upt...
متن کاملLate rectal toxicity determined by dose–volume parameters in computed tomography‐based brachytherapy for locally advanced cervical cancer
The aim of this study was to observe the relationship between dose-volume histogram (DVH) parameters and rectal late side effects (LSE) in computed tomography (CT)-based brachytherapy (BT) for patients with locally advanced cervical cancer. In total, 144 cervical cancer patients received external beam radiotherapy and CT-based BT. The data from 111 survival cases with pelvic local control (LC) ...
متن کاملExclusion of emphysematous lung from dose-volume estimates of risk improves prediction of radiation pneumonitis
BACKGROUND The risk factors for radiation pneumonitis (RP) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are unclear. Mean lung dose (MLD) and percentage of irradiated lung volume are common predictors of RP, but the most accurate dosimetric parameter has not been established. We hypothesized that the total lung volume irradiated without emphysema would influence the onset of RP...
